Licensing gets big properties but spending might be slacking
The state of the licensing industry seems to be on everyone’s mind, with The Hollywood Reporter/Brandweek covering the pervasiveness of super-hero branded products in retail outlets, an article I’m paraphrased (but not quoted) in, Brandweek again talking about how higher material costs and cuts in consumer spending are impacting the licensed goods industry and Variety [...]
Speed Racer CandyTracks game and Facebook gift
Seems there’s a spare that needs to be picked up in terms of my MMM: Speed Racer column from yesterday. One is something I missed and the other is a new thing I just noticed today.
First the thing I missed. Topps created a branded online advergame for themselves and the movie called CandyTracks.com. The racing [...]
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull advertising notes
As we hurtle toward the May 22nd release date, the advertising for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is definitely ramping up quite a bit.
First off, the picture to the left was snapped by me this morning along Clark St. in downtown Chicago. I’ve seen two or three of these around and [...]
Indiana Jones gets help from Microsoft Live Search (or vice versa)
Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land twittered this the other day but now has a full post up on the MSN Live Search game that’s being run for U.K. users as part of the campaign for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The game is basically meant to encourage usage of Live Search [...]
Making fast-food tie-ins better
Jennifer Carole has a great post, inspired by her daughter, on how to make the movie tie-in toys that come in fast food kid’s meals better and more useful for the kids who get them. I especially love the idea of Webkinz cash, something that’s always in short supply in my household, but something that [...]
Sex and the City on DVD and in Steve & Barry’s stores
A while ago I joked that the subtitle to the Sex and the City movie should be a plea from HBO to buy more of the source show’s DVD box sets. Well, it wasn’t really a joke, as HBO Video is completely predictably reissuing the “Complete Series” 20-disc set just in time for [...]
Indiana Jones gets supermarket promotional partners
Dr. Pepper is working with a handful of grocery store chains as part of its promotion for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The soft-drink brand has lined up separate deals at Supervalu, Kroger and Safeway stores, with games, promotions and more at each store. All three are, at least [...]
Speed Racer gets help from Time Warner Cable
Warner Bros. is getting some help from corporate sibling Time Warner Cable as it continues to promote Speed Racer. TWC has announced a new promotion that ties in Speed Racer’s focus on, well, speed with its Road Runner Turbo High Speed Online service. (Quick Note: Most awkward product name ever. Reminds me of [...]
Sex and the City cocktails
In case you were curious, Slashfood has the concoctions that make up the character-themed drinks Skyy Vodka has created in connection with Sex and the City. Love how they’re claiming the Cosmo for their own. And yes, I’m now going to go swallow my own tongue, thanks for asking.
CARRIE (aka THE NEW COSMO)
2 oz SKYY [...]
Speed Racer car at the Crown Royal 400
Tom noticed and then passed on to me that Bobby Labonte would be driving the #43 Speed Racer/Cheerios car this weekend in the NASCAR Crown Royal 400 race at the Richmond International Raceway. If anyone has pics either before or after of the car would love to include those here.
I did some searching and didn’t [...]
Promotional partners sign on to help Hulk
The Hollywood Reporter has a bit more on the promotional partnerships Marvel and Universal have signed to help The Incredible Hulk return to the big-screen. Burger King, 7-Eleven and Kmart have all been previously covered here, though packaged goods companies like Pringles and Sargento are also on board. As the story says, the [...]
Brands line up for Get Smart
Warner Bros. has signed on a number of big-name brands as cross-promotional partners for Get Smart , the studio’s big-screen adaptation of the classic TV show. Pepsi’s Sierra Mist brand has created a custom flavor dubbed “Undercover Orange” with packaging featuring the movie’s stars. In-store signage and TV spots starring The Rock, who [...]
Indiana Jones notes
A whole batch of notes about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to pass on. First, you can now read the official press release from Dr. Pepper for their “Passport to Explore” game promoting the movie, as well as get a good look at the soda cans that are going [...]
New Sex and the City poster and other notes
There’s yet another new poster for Sex and the City that’s been released by what’s left of New Line as the movie’s release nears next month. Like the one from last week, this alternate version takes the risky “Let’s just make it clear that Carrie is interested in sex by portraying her as a street [...]
Dr. Pepper joins the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal skull promotional campaign
Dr. Pepper has launched a wide-ranging promotion in conjunction with Paramount’s Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The soft-drink maker has launched a microsite that ranges across the movie’s other promotional partners, including Expedia and Burger King, that brings everything together into what’s been dubbed the Passport to Adventure.
The prizes for participation range [...]
