The marketing for this movie continues to trickle out, with Miramax releasing a new poster that’s heavy on the faces of the leading cast – something completely missing in the pre-release campaign – and including the Golden Globes nominations the film has garnered. I wonder if they’ll be a new campaign component for each set of awards nominations.
Miramax appears to have set itself up for some criticism by using a mash-up of two critic’s quotes in its “For Your Consideration” ads for the movie. That might be even worse than making up quotes from wholecloth. When are marketers going to learn that using the google people can fact-check just about anything and that writers, aside from those instances when they’ve unwisely gotten hammered and fired up WordPress actually remember what they’ve written? Not good. The studio eventually pulled the ad and replaced it with a version that included real, attributed quotes.
California Closets is touting their promotional participation of the movie, specifically mentioning the fact that they created a custom closet solution for the setting of a pivotal scene in the film. If you’ve seen the trailer, this is the closet that they discover a Tiffany ring box in.
How to Lose Friends and Alienate People
Director Robert B. Weide and star Simon Pegg are actually urging those of us in North America to not buy the movie’s DVD, saying it’s being released without the deleted scenes and gag reel and other bonus features they pushed for. Region 2 is getting those but the lack of extras, which they were pulling for throughout the process and which they apparently thought were locked in, has them honked off.
While the point of the Earth’s Vital List component of Fox’s campaign for the movie was questioned by some, it did result in apparently decent usage. More importantly, Fox and Moxie Interactive, which created the tool, were able to track user engagement and see how people were using it.
DirecTV has a new spot featuring Hellboy that’s pretty funny.
