Anne Thompson has a round-up of the glad-handing and gabbing that’s been part of the first component of the studio’s Oscar nomination solicitation campaigns. As she mentions, this sort of thing isn’t exactly a proven science but it is an arrow the studios pull out each year and everyone’s afraid to not do it.
Also on the awards front, all the advertising space bought by Paramount/Dreamworks was not enough to overcome to get Revolutionary Road a Screen Actors Guild nomination.
And as usual, studios are hoping that award nominations, in this case the Golden Globes, boost the box-office reciepts for those movies.
