Picking Up the Spare: Eagle Eye, Burn After Reading and more

Eagle Eye

Jeffrey Wells is very, very afraid of the hyperbole in the movie’s radio ads. More accurately he’s afraid of the generic catchphrases scattered throughout the spot.

Rick Mathieson has some details on the mobile campaign Paramount launched for the film and likes what he sees. This was yet another effort by the studio to extend the conceit behind the movie’s plot to the real world.

Paramount’s Amy Powell sat down with iMediaConnection to talk about Free Fall, the interactive game on the movie’s website that, again, took visitors inside the movie’s world. She also mentions some other items and touches on the studio’s marketing for Tropic Thunder as well.

Burn After Reading

Focus Features’ website FilmInFocus has a great slideshow up on how the designers arrived at the final version of the movie’s one-sheet, including the early variations the design went through, an evolutionary process that included a number of homages to different ’60s posters.

Blindness

An advocacy group for blind people is protesting Blindness, saying that it harms the efforts of those without sight to integrate into mainstream society. This might be the most ridiculous position ever since from everything I’ve read it’s not about how blind people act but how society breaks down when the rules are abandoned. David Poland comes to a similar conclusion.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The movie’s DVD release is being promoted in part through a partnership with pizza chain Papa John’s, who’s putting the poster art on pizza boxes and including a coupon for the DVD with orders. The chain is also running a series of TV spots for the promotion and will host video clips on their website.

The Incredible Hulk

Also getting help with his DVD debut is The Incredible Hulk. Artwork for the film is being included on packaging of Hostess snacks. There’s also a contest that’s being run to encourage people to give out Hulk-themed Hostess products as Halloween treats.
