Time interviews Struzan
Poster artist Drew Struzan, a truly iconic figure who has created one-sheets for many of the films that defined the youth of those between 25 and 45, sits down with Time’s Gilbert Cruz to reminisce on the process behind many of his most famous posters in this interview. Struzan recently announced his retirement from poster creation and that’s a loss.
His work always resonated in my mind in the same way that the creations of Norman Rockwell do. They’re certainly populist, meant to be enjoyed by as many people as possible. But that doesn’t at all distract from the impact each piece has. He creates images that immediately capture the look and feel of the film the poster is meant to promote, despite his admitting to not having seen many of the movies before they opened.
