According to new research from eMarketer, movie marketing costs are expected to hit $2.4 billion by 2012, driven mostly by studios working to overcome their fears of breaking release windows.
The report says studios belonging to or otherwise affiliated to the MPAA spent $754 million in 2007 on movie marketing efforts, which increasingly mix in things like widgets and other new media components as each year ticks by.
The full report is only available behind the paid wall so I can’t see what all the conclusions and predictions are, but it looks to be pretty interesting. If anyone wants to comp me a copy I’d be more than grateful and would love to take a look.
