Henry Poole is Here poster

Henry Poole is Here poster

The MTV Movies Blog brings us the poster for the Luke Wilson comedy Henry Poole is Here. And I’m a little conflicted about how I feel about it.

The design plays up the comedy angle of the movie, positioning Wilson as somehow the sole sane - albeit possibly grumpy - person amidst a sea of wacky characters. The movie’s setting of middle-ground suburbia is established pretty well, maybe a little too well. The houses in the background are good but the hose and whatever that sign is in the foreground are a little much, kind of over-playing the drabness of the location.

I get that they were trying to tie in the hose and everything from the trailer, but the movie’s main conceit of Wilson’s character finding an image of God on his stucco and having his house then become a religious tourist destination is completely eliminated. And without that the rest of the stuff just kind of doesn’t make sense.

It’s an alright poster, but Wilson’s ability to open a movie is questionable and this doesn’t give a clear enough picture of the movie, at least not the one that was presented in the trailer, to really work all that well.

Really looking forward to checking out Pellington’s latest film Henry Poole Is Here starring Luke Wilson. It’s about a guy who abandons his fiancĂ©e and family business to spend what he believes are his remaining days alone. The discovery of a “miracle” by a nosy neighbor ruptures his solitude and restores his faith in life. It hits theaters on August 15th, and looks like it should be a pretty interesting dramedy.
