The Spirit widget now part of a contest

Now that the trailer for The Spirit has debuted, Lionsgate has re-purposed the widget used to count down to that debut as part of a contest.

If you’ve embedded that widget, you’re entered into a sweepstakes that will award the publisher whose embedded widget gets the most views a trip to the San Diego Comic-Con, an event that will see the unveiling of a batch of new Spirit content.

This is a great move by Lionsgate. It’s exactly what I was talking about a while ago when I said that while I liked the widget usage to date, studios needed to find something to do with them once their initial purpose had passed. They’ve extended the life - and value - of the widget, meaning publishers are that much more likely to keep it up and continue turning over free ad space to the studio in the name of an interesting and interactive user experience.

Really great concept - I LOVE this idea for this movie. It definitely is something that will keep reminding me of its presence and the next year release date.
