Tropic Thunder character posters
I’m way behind in mentioning these character posters that have been released for Tropic Thunder, but wanted to make sure I’d done so. They’re really quite funny, though again it’s not really clear whether they’re for the movie we’re seeing or the movie the characters are shooting within the movie that we’re seeing.
While the Ben Stiller and Jack Black posters make complete sense to me, I am more than a little surprised they went with one featuring Robert Downey Jr., who appears in the movie in blackface. I realize that’s one of the major comedic elements of the movie, so it makes sense that he’s there. But considering that appearance has been the subject of more than a little discussion about the appropriateness of that, it makes the decision to do that just a tad odd.
Anyway, the comedy of the posters comes from the ridiculousness of having guys like Stiller and Black toting heavy artillery. Otherwise they’re exactly what you would expect from actual action movie posters, which is likely what they were shooting for.
