Fandango names Indy 4 as 2008’s most anticipated
According to online ticket site Fandango these are most anticipated movies of the summer:
1. INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (82%)
2. THE DARK KNIGHT (42%)
3. IRON MAN (38%)
4. THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN (37%)
5. THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR (30%)
6. GET SMART (29%)
7. THE INCREDIBLE HULK (22%)
8. THE UNTITLED X-FILES SEQUEL (20%)
9. SPEED RACER (19%)
10. SEX AND THE CITY (19%)
Interesting, no? Most of this isn’t surprising – I would have guessed Iron Man and The Dark Knight were flipped and am a little shocked to see Prince Caspian there – but it is telling in terms of public attitude.
Specifically this is telling of the fact that the poll was conducted online. I doubt 20 percent of the general public is anticipating the X-Files movie sequel considering it just got a poster, doesn’t have an officially released trailer yet and isn’t even branded. Conversely I would imagine the actual percentage for Sex and the City is higher than 19 percent, but the movie’s target audience is probably under-represented in Fandango’s user base.
So we have a list that’s made up of geek-targeted titles.
Christopher at Spout wonders where Wall-E is on the list and if its non-appearance is indicative of trouble for the movie. I don’t think so for the same reasons I state above. It’s not a movie Fandango’s audience is likely to tag as one their especially looking forward to and is one even parents may not be anticipating. But that doesn’t mean they’re not going to be taking their kids to see it.
