A bunch of stuff has crept up in the online, alternate reality campaign for The Dark Knight.
First, the fight for Gotham District Attorney is getting ugly. A group calling itself the Concerned Citizens For a Better Gotham has launched a campaign to expose what they’re calling Dent’s media-crazed actions, including sending innocent cops to jail for corruption. The group is made up of “over 100 concerned businessmen, police officers, and residents” who purport to simply support cops and others they feel are being wrongly targeted by Dent. The group even sent out half-burned Dent campaign buttons which you can see here.
Harvey Dent’s actions are also the focus of the messaging on the new campaign site for incumbent District Attorney Roger Garcetti, who accuses Dent of having “operated outside the law” and backing the cops who accuse Dent of wrong-doing.
The accusations are so pervasive Dent felt the need to put up an announcement on his site that the charges were false and that he was staying in the race. That was made at the same time he made a “public” announcement to that effect. He describes the Concerned Citizens group as “shadowy” and full of lies and innuendo.
While Dent has been busy so has The Joker. As he did last time there’s now a defaced version of The Gotham Times at HaHaHaTimes.com. It’s full of the same kind of thing he did to the Gotham Times last time, circling the occasional words, defacing pictures and adding his own spin on the stories of the day.
There’s also the appearance of ClownTravelAgency.com, which directed people to locations in cities across the country where they could pick up Joker-branded balls and, I think, some other items. There’s also speculation this is where a new trailer could appear, though there’s no indication of that at this time.
All in all some interesting additions to this campaign. I feel a recap post coming on at some point tracking the evolution of this online effort, which continues to be really interesting and engaging from a multitude of perspectives.
