First Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull TV spot

indyskullpic2.jpgWell, the advertising campaign for Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has, with the release of this first TV spot, begun. In a way that’s a little sad, but what are you going to do.

For a TV commercial it’s pretty good. Save for the father/son interchange that opens the spot there’s no new footage in there, just a re-mixing of what we’ve already seen in the trailer. Like most things it suffers a bit from the shorter running time, with the action not being given a moment to breathe at all. It’s just chopped together.

But it should be fun for people to catch it and begin explaining to their kids that this is a movie they’re looking forward to because they saw the first movie when they were the age their kids are now. And I’m not exaggerating here - that’s literally true in my case. I was six when Raiders came out but was probably seven by the time I saw it. My oldest is six right now but will be seven just a couple months after Crystal Skull debuts. Holy schneikes. Yeah, I’m going to need a minute to deal with that.

Oh, and speaking of Indy and advertising: You know how I’m always going on about how these big movies get way more ad dollars than they need in the name of “awareness” when they’re going to have publicity/PR campaigns that will put the stars on all sorts of magazine covers? I present to you Exhibit A.
