More action on The Dark Knight campaign
Warner Bros. has launched a slew of new websites as part of the online marketing campaign for The Dark Knight. According to Cinematical, sites include a Gotham-centric take on Drudge-style reporting, Gotham Cable News and more.
There’s also news of activity on the Joker front, with people who signed up to get text messages from him being warned of something happening before or on April 1st. That would mark the first time the Joker has reappeared in an active role in the campaign since the untimely passing of Heath Ledger.
One of the sites launched is for Dana Worthington, a candidate for District Attorney who will be running against Harvey Dent, who finally announced his candidacy in an email to his supporters and whose decision graces the headline of the updated Gotham Times site. Here’s the email that went out:
We did it! Harvey Dent has officially announced he’s running for Gotham District Attorney! And it’s all because of you — your support.
Your rallies, your petition drives, your videos, your enthusiasm. The Dentmobile brought our message of change for Gotham City to every neighborhood. But it was your energy that brought a message of support to Harvey Dent himself.
And he heard you. Harvey Dent heard the fierce desire all of you have for change in Gotham. And that’s why, today, Harvey Dent announced that he’s running for Gotham DA.
Now, the real battle begins. We all must join together to make sure that Harvey Dent gets the chance to take back Gotham City from crime and corruption.
Talk to your neighbors, your friends, your coworkers. Tell them why Harvey Dent is the one man who can save Gotham.
And keep on checking www.ibelieveinharveydent.com for news of the race.
Harvey Dent thanks you all. With your help, we can take back Gotham.
Sincerely
Allan Cypes
Media Manager, Harvey Dent for Gotham DA
Also got this email response when I pinged the Citizens for Batman contact email address:
Dear Gotham Citizen,
Thanks for expressing your interest in joining Citizens for Batman. The easiest way you can join is by attending a meeting. Check the web site for meeting times. If you can’t attend, you can always lobby City Hall to support Batman and stop any talk of his being arrested.
Looking forward to seeing you,
Brian Douglass
Founder and President, Citizens for Batman
Finally on the Dark Knight front, Karina passes on word of a Councilman in Queens who’s lobbying to get New York City to officially adopt the nickname Gotham City before the movie comes out. The move is funny on a number of levels and Karina hits most of them.
In addition to her comments I also like to visualize an increasingly-red-faced Richard M. Daley spitting and sputtering about how the movie was shot here so Chicago should be Gotham and then finding one of his mob pals to blow up a truck or two to prove his point.
