I’ve been looking forward to the various straight-to-video films produced by Marvel Comics over the years. I like the Ultimate Avengers films and kind of dug the Invincible Iron Man and Doctor Strange flicks as well.
But, if this trailer for Next Avengers is any indication, I’ll be skipping this one. The premise of the movie is that The Avengers formed, vanquished all evil and then retired, got married and had kids. But then one day Ultron appeared and killed them all, but not before they spirited their children to safety. Now those kids are assuming the roles of their parents and taking the fight back to Ultron.
Uh huh.
I don’t mind the fact that the animation, especially of the kids, is of the same faux-manga style as the “Teen Titans” TV show. What turns me off is the way the story is presented, with Exposition Man telling all this to a roomful of kids.
It just looks way too cheesy in its attempt to both appeal to older Avengers fans with the opening and then to younger kids at the end. Ugh. The first time Hawkeye gets featured in one of these movies and it’s like this? Just awful.
