New Nim’s Island trailer
This new trailer for the fantasy adventure Nim’s Island presents what could generously be described as a completely different movie than the first one.
The initial trailer told the story of a reclusive writer, played by Jodie Foster, who gets a letter from a little girl played by Abagail Breslin who’s father, whom she lives with on a remote island paradise, has disappeared. The girl reaches out to the writer because of her series of novels about an adventuring hero and she thinks she can help.
This trailer tells the story of a little girl who lives with her father on a remote island when one day this writer person is stranded on the island, after which the girl’s father goes missing, leading the two of them to search for him.
And I’m not just making this stuff up. It’s not my perception or the way I may be wrongly reading things. This is the way it’s spelled out in the narration.
I don’t think this second trailer, if viewed on its own terms, is bad. In fact it works quite well. But if you paid attention to and remember the first trailer it’s a bit confusing, leading you to wonder what the movie is really about.
Interestingly some scenes that were included in the earlier trailer have been cut on the grounds that they seemed a little too fantastical. Sequences involving imaginary friends of Nim’s, friends based on characters from the books she surrounds her self, have been cut from the movie entirely for various reasons. Those scenes will still appear on the movie’s DVD release, though, if they were ones you particularly enjoyed.
