Deception trailer and poster

deceptionposter.jpgThis trailer for the psycho-sexual drama Deception is pretty good and pretty weird. Ewan Macgregor plays a nebbishy office worker who is one day shown the secrets of living life to its fullest by a new arrival, played by Hugh Jackman. Things turn sour, though, and Macgregor finds he’s being setup for…something…by Jackman.

Things move along in the trailer pretty well but I feel like a lot of the story was divulged, not leaving many plot twists to be discovered in the movie itself. That’s unfortunately standard procedure for movies that are deemed to be “too confusing” to sell with any sense of mystery retained. Better to spoil the whole thing than to make the audience think.

The poster that’s also been released works pretty well at conveying the idea that at some point it’s going to be Jackman pulling strings that impact Macgregor and Michelle Williams, who plays one of the ladies he’s introduced to and who, as we see in the trailer, becomes an integral part of the plot.
