Disney: We’d like our stores back if you don’t mind
Well this is interesting. Now that it has a few successful franchises in its coffers Disney is having second thoughts about its decision a couple years ago to sell management of the Disney Store chain to retailer The Children’s Place. Disney sold operational control of its 300+ stores to The Children’s Place three years ago and the latter says the stores operate at an annual loss. But Disney says it can make them profitable with a little trimming in the number and a focus on its recent successful TV shows and movies.
The two parties have been in negotiations for a short while now. I’d be surprised if Disney doesn’t wind up getting them back. Either they bite the bullet and decide to pay whatever TCP asks for in order to get back the right to sell “Hannah Montana” karaoke machines or they just send in their version of Luca Brasi and allow his more unconventional methods to help them see the light.
