This new trailer for The Life Before Her Eyes is a fair sight better than the first one that was released. It lays out the story of a woman who’s still haunted by a violent incident at her high school when she was a student there in a little better fashion. I think part of that is that we don’t see as much of the daughter of Uma Thurman’s character, who in the first trailer I kept getting confused with Evan Rachel Wood, who plays the younger version of Thurman’s character.
Basically the movie is trying to reach three distinct demographics with three distinct elements:
1) Young girls: They’re being appealed to with the story of friendship and how you feel so lost as a teen as you, as Wood’s character says, wait for your life to start.
2) Older women: This trailer presents more of the relationship Thurman’s character has with her husband or whomever that is. It also includes a scene insinuating that he’s cheating on her, which is sure to elicit gasps of “MEN!” in the audience.
3) Young boys, teenage boys, young adult men and old dirty men: I can only assume these are being specially targeted based on the amount of screen time given in this and the previous trailer to Wood and her friend in their bathing suits.
Like I said, better than the first one.
