Then She Found Me trailer
I’ve been hearing quite a bit coming out of SXSW about Then She Found Me, the directorial debut of Helen Hunt. In the movie Hunt plays a woman whose husband (Matthew Broderick) leaves her because he doesn’t want kids at the same time she’s told she can find out the identity of her birth mother. As she’s finding her identity she begins an involvement with a character played by Colin Firth. But a one-night stand with Broderick leaves her pregnant with his child at the same time she’s emotionally committing to Firth.
So you can see where the complications would come in.
The trailer for the movie is completely charming and low-key while still being quite funny. It’s good that Hunt cast a group of actors who are so self-assured in their performances for her debut. That’s not my way of saying she wouldn’t be able to handle more heavy lifting, just that it allows her to concentrate on the grace notes while not having to worry about the broader strokes.
That sort of assuredness on everyone’s part comes through in the trailer and, honestly, is only weighted down by the presence of Bette Midler. She might be fine in the movie as a whole, but the short bursts she appears for here are a big interruption to the flow that’s established by everyone else.
Other than that it’s a good trailer and certainly is going to raise some interest in the movie.
