Zack and Miri Make a Porno trailer potentially coming this summer

Included in this update from the fine folks at NewsAskew on how Kevin Smith’s new movie Zack & Miri Make a Porno is a little hint at when we might expect to see the first trailer for the flick:

While over an hour of the movie has already been roughly edited together by Kevin, he does not anticipate to have a trailer anytime soon. Current hopes are for the movie’s official trailer to debut with “Pineapple Express” im July. Going by a rough theater rule of thumb, that means they’re likely eyeballing a September or October 2008 release date for the movie (this is only speculation).

Putting the trailer in front of Pineapple Express, the latest Judd Apatow-produced movie, makes complete sense since Smith is going to be trying to reach that same audience, especially with Porno starring Apatow regular Seth Rogen. So contextually this is a very good idea.

The one thing is that Smith’s films seem to have notoriously long post-production periods for some reason. So while the September/October time frame would make sense if there’s a trailer in July I’d be willing to bet that, either because of post-prod efforts or simply because The Weinstein Co. doesn’t want it clogging up the awards season schedule, it will wind up as a February release. That’s just a hunch, but it seems to make sense to me.
