No, really?
Actually, the problem with this trailer for Starship Troopers 3 isn’t the production value that looks so cheap it makes things like Xena look like Spielberg productions by comparison. Nor is it the incredibly awful acting. Both of those are more or less to be expected and indeed may even be what people are expecting from the movie.
No, the real problem is that it’s one of those trailers that wants to have it both ways. It wants to be a clever recruiting film that is presented like we’re in the movie’s universe. But it also wants to present a more traditional trailer with scenes from the movie, scenes that aren’t part of that recruiting film.
It would be better (marginally) if it decided on a tactic and committed to it fully. If it had been a recruiting film that would have at least been clever. But instead it hedges its bets and is chock full of fail.
