Super Bowl XLII: Wall-E trailer

Super Bowl XLII: Wall-E trailer

OK, I ragged on the Semi-Pro spot for adding non-movie content, but keep in mind that was a 15-second spot we were talking about.

This Super Bowl commercial for Disney/Pixar’s Wall-E does the same thing, adding interspersed scenes of Buzz Lightyear and Woody eating popcorn and talking about whether they’ve met Wall-E or not, but in this instance it works. That’s in part because it’s a longer commercial. It’s also partly because instead of just showing scenes from the movie there’s a new little vignette that’s been created with Wall-E, a vacuum cleaner and the little bug firned that we saw in the previous trailers.

I do sort of worry that Disney/Pixar didn’t quite have enough faith in the movie (or enough footage ready) to show scenes in the spot, but considering they seemed to be going for a completely different vibe with this commercial I’m not thinking about that too much. Instead I think this is completely charming and a solid spot that probably got a bunch of parents calling their kids back into the room to watch.

You can also watch the spot on the Disney’s official website for the movie.
