New Meet the Browns poster
I’m kind of at a loss for how to describe this new Meet the Browns poster. Oh, I’m sorry, this new Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns poster. Perry has so much good will built up after the success of Why Did I Get Married and some of his other films. And here he goes for a visual gag - the old guy with bad pants paired with a pink tuxedo shirt and jacket - that’s barely worthy of a Martin Lawrence or latter-day Eddie Murphy movie.
In fact a similar joke is being used in the trailer for Martin Lawrence’s Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. It might even be the same pair of pants.
It’s offensive, terrible and the addition of Madea to it does not help. They’re playing up one aspect of the movie - that this extended family that’s hinted at in the copy is a bunch of slovenly hicks - at the expense of the main story of how the main character (played by Angela Bassett) has to come to terms with this family she’s never met.
