Disney again leads studios in online ad spending

dec2007adspending.JPGOnce again Walt Disney comes out on top of Nielsen’s tracking of online ad spending by entertainment companies. The company spent over $1.2 million on Internet advertising in December of 2007.

But check out the second place finish by Overture Films. The studio has kind of come out of nowhere - it wasn’t even on last month’s list - to a position that only trails Disney by about $50,000 and leads Time Warner by over $100,000. It obviously spent big on promoting Mad Money, its female-led bank robbery movie that it placed against Cloverfield earlier this month.

I am a bit surprised though to see Viacom trailing so far behind, coming in seventh place. December would have been when it was starting the mainstream campaign for Cloverfield. And while that didn’t seriously ramp up until January I would expect to see it higher on this list.
