Almost buried among the tidbits dropped by Star Trek co-writer Robert Orci in this interview is the fact that we shouldn’t expect a longer, more detailed trailer for the movie until sometime towards the middle of the summer.
This makes complete and utter sense if you pull your head out of your fanboy hinder for a minute. By all accounts shooting is still in progress and I think just started a short while ago. So there probably won’t be all that much trailer-ready footage until then. Also, Paramount will likely try to release it in front of a major tentpole like The Love Guru, Mike Meyer’s latest comedy or something like that.
And let me just re-state my belief that Paramount won’t be giving Abrams nearly as much latitude with the teaser campaign for Trek as they did with Cloverfield. The franchise is way too important to them to go out on too far a ledge.
