Be Kind Rewind’s “sweded” trailer
I tell you, I like this “sweded” trailer for Be Kind Rewind a whole lot more than I do the actual trailer. Director Michel Gondry reenacts the entire trailer, but in the very low budget way that is used in the film when an entire store’s worth of video tapes gets erased. It’s much funnier, much more relateable and just much more interesting to watch than the official Jack Black/Mos Def version.
Perhaps that’s because Gondry is actually not an actor, whereas Black and Def are, something that leaks into the movies they need to re-shoot. They can’t stop being actors long enough to not act like actors, something that takes me completely out of the actual trailer.
