Own your own Cloverfield monster toy

cloverfieldpic.jpgIt obviously couldn’t do this before the movie came out, but now Hasbro has announced it will be making a toy of the monster from J.J. Abrams monster smash Cloverfield.

The toy, which can be pre-ordered now but which won’t ship until the end of September, will set you back $100. But you’ll get your money’s worth - it comes with “calm” and “agitated” interchangeable heads, 10 of the detachable spider-monsters like the ones that chase the movie’s main characters through the subway, and the head of the Statue of Liberty.

In other Cloverfield wrap-up news:

Sci-Fi Wire has a good report on some of the lingering questions from the movie and how their answers may or may not be hinted at upon closer inspection of the film.

Geoff Livingston doesn’t think the marketing was in support of a good product and predicts the movie’s box-office will fall. I disagree with the first point and while I know that many of the mainstream reviews weren’t all that glowing, the online chatter was pretty positive, so it comes down to if those reviews are influential anymore.

Steve Bryant points out that the movie itself is decidedly devoid of technology. He also says the actual marketing push didn’t amount to more than a few trailers and a poster, an assertion I’d beg to disagree with him on.
