Cloverfield exploits 9/11? Really?
It’s hard for me to fathom how asinine this notion that the Cloverfield campaign is “exploiting 9/11″ in order to scare people into theaters. The clip below has someone who lost her son on that day saying it’s wrong of the producers of the movie to use imagery of the Statue of Liberty sans noggin in their campaign since it brings back too many painful memories.
As Felix says, “Remember in 9/11 when a monster tossed the head of the statue of liberty across the city?”
The only conclusions I can reach are 1) Fox News is a half-rate news organization that’s willing to reference 9/11 at the drop of the hat, even if it’s for a story about why Taco Bell should never run another ad because someone bought a taco on that day, and 2) No one can ever destroy New York again because the imagery is just too painful.

In other Cloverfied news, the movie apparently took over the MySpace homepage with an ad the other day.
You can also check out some of the submissions to the “Happy Slusho Commercial” contest here.
The money shot from the trailer (the SofL’s head bouncing down the street) gets lovingly recreated by the characters in the online comic Multiplex.
More sure to come.
