The Year of Getting to Know Us trailer
I’m not sure what the actual title of this movie is, but everyone is referring to it as The Year of Getting to Know Us so that’s what I’m going to go with. That’s despite the fact that the trailer below has the movie titled Rocket, but whatever. The Rocket name seems derived from the last name of the main character, played by Jimmy Fallon.
The trailer is alright, hitting most of the usual beats for a movie about a father and son who have a complicated relationship that just gets sorted out, along with the rest of the son’s relationships, after the father dies or has a severe illness. I didn’t want to physically hurt Fallon, which might be a first in his cinematic career, so I’m going to say the trailer works pretty well based primarily on that. [pic via FS]

This trailer is awful! What is the deal with the mix of songs in it? Did they really mix in the score from Little Miss Sunshine with Top 40 music? I’m sure the movie is intended to be a sweet and heartful indie film, but this trailer is failing to convey that.

[...] Which is why I’m willing to, right now, throw a gallon of water onto the feeble, struggling flame of Jimmy Fallon’s attempts to establish any kind of indie film cred with the release of the The Year of Getting to Know Us trailer. This film, which is apparently also known as Rocket, seems to be already experiencing a kind of identity crisis, which could be because the filmmakers decided not to go with my favorite title, Elizabeth Big Fish-Town Garden State Yet With A Lead Actor More Annoying Than Zach Braff, Which Is No Small Feat. Here’s a look at the trailer, courtesy of Movie Marketing Madness: [...]
