Around the web clean-up

Instead of pushing these to my link blog I thought I’d just briefly mention some stuff that is of interest to MMM here.
Karina does a post-mortum on the failure of Walk Hard to generate any box-office success in the wake of a campaign that was alright, but not very strong at establishing the movie’s own [...]

The Duchess teaser trailer

A trailer has been released by Paramount Vantage for The Duchess, a period drama starring Keira Knightley as Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire. Ralph Fiennes stars as the Duke, her husband, but as this trailer shows - and as you’d likely suspect from such a movie - there’s another man who enters the picture to [...]

Cloverfield goes to MySpace, Facebook

Paramount has added pages on MySpace and Facebook to the marketing campaign for Cloverfield. Both the pages are being used as distribution points for the widget that contains the first five minutes or so of the movie and the attendant contest to win a screening of the movie and other prizes.
In other Cloverfield news, apparently [...]

New Cloverfield Jamie & Teddy video and more

There’s a new “Jamie & Teddy” video that has been released as part of the racing-toward-the-finish Cloverfield campaign.
If you remember from the last episode, Jamie opened up the package Teddy had sent, only to find a recorded message from him saying if she hadn’t heard from him in a while that meant he’d been kidnapped. [...]

Fox to begin renting films through iTunes

We have a late entry in the “Biggest distribution news of 2007″ category: 20th Century Fox will begin renting current release titles through Apple’s iTunes storefront, reports The Financial Times.
Customers will be able to rent movies through iTunes that are downloaded to a PC. The Apple FairPlay DRM package would then kill the file after [...]

10,000 BC Facebook Spear Wars

If you’re tired of poking, zombie biting, tasing or doing any of the other things to annoy your friends on Facebook that have been available for a while, you can now choose to enlist them in Spear Wars, a new Facebook app developed as part of the campaign for 10,000 BC from Warner Bros.
When you [...]

Just not up to snuff

I completely agree with what Andrew at ReelPop says about the online component of the Be Kind Rewind campaign:
Given the potential to have YouTube fans shooting their own swedes, why aren’t we already seeing a full-blown, user-generated festival under way on that site’s sponsor page to chum the waters for the film?
That’s a question that [...]

New The Signal trailer

This new trailer for The Signal expands on the teaser in one key area: It actually gives you a glimpse of the movie’s story and its main characters. Seems that some mysterious signal that’s become embedded in all radio, TV and other broadcasts is turning half the population into savage murderers and one woman who’s [...]

There Will Be Blood screenings preview

Paramount Vantage/Miramax are sneaking There Will Be Blood in theaters across the country this Saturday the 29th. To let people know that’s happening they’ve released the promotional spot embedded below.
Some people have called it weird or odd as a way to sell the movie and I can certainly see where they’re coming from. It’s essentially [...]

New Hancock trailer

This second trailer for Hancock, which has Will Smith playing a homeless super hero with little regard for public safety and the damage he himself causes, is just slightly different from the first one that debuted just about a week or so ago. Most of the scenes are the same, with some just slightly extended. [...]

New Persepolis trailer

This new trailer from Sony Pictures Classics for the animated film Persepolis differs quite a bit from the first one that was released. Where that version tried to present a holistic view of the main character’s journey from girlhood in Iran to womanhood back in Iran after spending years in Europe, this one focuses more [...]

New Be Kind Rewind promo video - How to Swede

There’s a new video, embedded below, that has been released as part of the campaign for Be Kind Rewind, a movie about two guys who attempt to shoot themselves all the movies that got accidentally erased from their friend’s video store.
The word that the people behind the movie have invented for that process is “swedeing” [...]
