Untraceable interactive official website

killwithmeweb.JPGI finally checked out KillWithMe.com, the official website - or at least one of them - for the cyber-thriller Untraceable starring Diane Lane.

The URL, first off, is taken from the site that provides the film’s MacGuffin. In the movie it’s run by someone who broadcasts over the Internet videos of himself killing people. The more people who log on to the site, the faster the person in the video dies. Lane plays a Federal investigator who tries to track down this untraceable killer.

When you first load the site you become part of that “game.” You’re asked whether you’d like to help kill someone, and then tells you how many of the previous visitors chose that option as well. Once in the site, which is accomplished by clicking on the Federal-agency graphic your perspective is shifted to that of the Feds. You’re shown a PC desktop type of environment and briefed on the case before the anonymous killer pops up via chat and prompts you to play a series of games.

Successfully complete each game and a different button appears that takes you to the movie’s YouTube channel. After you complete all four games you’re given the chance to use the clues sprinkled around the site to unlock the killer’s persona. The password is shown at the end of the trailer video that is on that channel.

It’s a fun game that does a pretty good job of bringing you into the movie’s universe. Since the movie is centered around the Internet it makes sense that Sony would create a more interactive site. Usually environments like this wind up coming off as sort of lame, like they were designed by people who had never actually been on the Internet before. But this one isn’t half bad.

I’ve seen “UNTRACEABLE” and it’s superb. A really suspenseful film with a good performance by Diane Lane. Prepare to sit on the edge of your seat!
