Cloverfield TV spots

cloverfieldpic.jpgI’m vaguely disappointed in the fact that Paramount has begun running TV spots for Cloverfield. I’m trying hard to fight that sort of snobbery you find among people who stop liking a band when it finally has a hit song after years of underground status, but I think that’s what’s creeping in.

Actually, I don’t think it’s so much that as the fact that what has been a very interesting, interactive – and mostly online – effort is now going to have to adjust to reach the mass audience. That brings with it a certain amount of dumbing down. Gone are the subtle hints, the videos just begging for over-analyzing. In their place is a mainstream campaign that will sell the movie as a big monster flick.

Anyway, check out the three TV spots currently in circulation.
