New Great Debaters poster
This new poster for The Great Debaters is not, I don’t think, very good. The declarative, authoritative pose being struck by Denzel Washington makes me think MGM/TWC is trying to sell the movie as Malcom X 2 and not selling it on its own merits.
It’s also more an Oscar “For Your Consideration” ad than it is a poster for the new movie. The huge text declaring the movie stars two previous Oscar winners is basically saying “look, they’ve won awards before to you might as well give it to them again.”
Add to that the fact that it tells you nothing about the movie’s story and, well, I’m just not very impressed. The design is alright, but not for this movie, at least not based on the rest of the campaign. The previous poster fits very nice with the trailer, but this one sticks out like a bright yellow sore thumb.
