Be Kind Rewind poster

bekindrewindposter.jpgI’ve not been shy about my opinion that Be Kind Rewind looks like an absolute trainwreck. The trailer looks to me to be an unfunny mess. The website was mildly amusing, but that was largely because I laughed at the home-drawn Google homepage, not because of anything related to the movie. Finally, the series of “Sweded” trailers for movies like Ghostbusters and Rush Hour just seem awful.

But they were all apparently just prelude to this poster. As you can see, the main focus is on Jack Black and Mos Def flying on a VHS cassette, camera in hand. The two are decked out in who knows what kind of outfits and the copy makes it clear they’re shooting their own footage here.

But it’s not funny. There’s nothing about the movie’s story (which doesn’t sound that funny to begin with) and the it continues to confuse me as to just what era the movie takes place in. It’s aggressive in trying to convey to the audience that these two are…ummm…that is…it doesn’t even convey anything about what the two are trying to do. There’s a brief copy point but it doesn’t tell anyone anything about the movie or even hint at any sort of comedy.

Combine all those problems with a color scheme that seems to intentionally want to make me hurt someone and you have what I’m confident is the worst poster of 2007.
