Two new Youth Without Youth trailers
Yahoo has two new theatrical-length trailers for Francis Ford Coppola’s Youth Without Youth, about a man who’s given a new bout of youth after surviving a mysterious lightning strike.
The first one is very awkwardly cut, seeming to pull nonsensical, unconnected clips from throughout the movie. There’s some brief mention of people being interested in the main character, played by Tim Roth, but then that’s dropped for a bunch of more random images.
The second one plays up the espionage part of the movie quite a bit, positioning at as kind of a political drama wrapped around some sort of meditation on living full life and being given a second chance.
I have to say these are both pretty bad trailers. I want to be excited about this movie but these have me very worried. If they’re so scattershot with the clips for the trailers then what’s the movie going to be like?
Then again maybe this is just a movie that defies an easy trailer due to its complexity. I hope that’s the case because these two – just like the teaser before them – do not do a very good job of not making the movie look like a pretentious mess.
