MMM: Dan in Real Life updates

daninreallifepic.jpgA few additional news items relating to marketing of Dan in Real Life that have popped up in the last day or so.

First, this review from ColumbusAlive says the role Dan’s job as a newspaper columnist is much bigger in the campaign than it does in the movie itself. I’m kind of surprised at this since it seemed to be such a big part of the plot’s setup.

Director Peter Hedges says he’s really pleased with the poster for the movie, saying it could have been worse and included a lot of floating heads and really, painfully underlined that this was a comedy, which I keep hearing it really isn’t. That is probably why the marketing team had such troubles.

Finally, Ramin Setoodeh at Newsweek says he asked Disney to comment on the movie’s campaign but they refused. He says the poster sells the movie as a comedy when it’s really a chick flick.
