Quick Takes: 9/17/07

  • filmstrip.jpgTHR says News Corp. will likely be downright uppity in its upcoming negotiations with Apple over keeping its TV episodes on iTunes. What are these people thinking?
  • Warner Bros. is putting its development of a dual high-def format DVD on indefinite hold out of fear it’s going to the left dangling in the wind when no one else decides to split the difference and actually put the consumer first.
  • Management and production shingle Collective has purchased the horror fan site Bloody-Disgusting. The new owners plan to build the site up into a destination for both full length films as well as user-submitted short videos.
  • The NYT now has a story about the Philadelphia Inquirer’s scuttled plans to hang a Bee Movie promotion on the outside of its building. It notes it was neighbors concerned over aesthetics and not journalism watchdogs that raised the issue.
  • France, Spain and Germany will be among the first countries to be able to access Paramount films on-demand via Joost under a new deal between the two.
  • Peter Bart at Variety has a rather odd open letter to Matt Damon that calls the star out for not doing more to kiss the ass of the press. Hard to see this as not just a case of sour grapes.
