Once songs on WXRT in Chicago

oncepic.jpgA few times this weekend I was driving around running some errands and listening to WXRT. Twice while in the car I heard “Falling Slowly” from the Once soundtrack. Both times the DJ explained what the song was, where it was from and who was singing it.

They also then launched into a minute or so discussion of the movie, and how it had achieved such great success based on word-of-mouth. They talked about the stars’ appearance at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music, and just generally about the movie and the impact it’s had in a limited release.

I just think it’s striking that this little movie (which I’ve yet to see, btw) is getting spread so far and wide by people who are genuinely excited about it. The release of a single is meant not only to promote the full soundtrack but also the movie, and if other DJs are giving it the off-the-cuff praise the XRT staff is then the movie will likely continue its success.
