Cloverfield teaser site

There appears to be a teaser website that’s been created for J.J. Abrams’ super-secret monster project, commonly known around the tubes as Cloverfield. With the appearance of this site just after the trailer made significant waves in its debut before Transformers it appears the studio behind the movie is ramping up the marketing now that we’re in the second half of the summer.

But what the heck is this movie? No one seems to know.

And that in and of itself is the amazing thing. In this age of set reports and leaked photos and script reviews how is it we know next to nothing about a movie from a producer who’s got a red hot career thanks to two recent hit TV series, “Lost” and “Alias.” I have no idea what the answer to that question is.

But the impact the trailer debut made is significant. You’ll find a wealth of discussion about it on Google News and Technorati. The reaction is, I would guess, all the more amazing because no one knew about this going in. There wasn’t endless hype about the trailer’s appearance and it’s been darn near impossible to find online save for one or two cell-phone captured videos that have been quickly yanked.

It will be interesting to see how this campaign evolves and if it continues with the same momentum it has obviously started out with.
