The Simpsons Movie ‘Ball of Death’ online game
There’s a new online game on the official website for The Simpsons Movie called “Ball of Death.” The game not only features game play that was supervised by the movie’s (and show’s, natch) creative team but also the ability to embed the Flash-based game on your own blog or site.
Margot at the Wedding poster
Following up on last week’s release of the movie’s trailer, Cinematical now brings us the poster for Margot at the Wedding. This is a wonderful poster that not only contains no small amount of star power but also positions it perfectly as a small, character driven film that will be presented mostly in a muted [...]
The Brave One poster
I was more or less indifferent to the trailer for Jodie Foster’s upcoming vengeance movie The Brave One but I kind of love the poster that’s just been released by Warner Bros. I immediately get - and I think anyone else would get even if they didn’t know the movie’s plot - that this is [...]
Turner offers advertisers special in-movie packages
Turner Entertainment will offer advertisers taking part in this year’s upfront sales special consideration when buying time within the movies aired on TNT and TBS, reports MediaWeek.
The cable network operator is reportedly looking to find advertisers willing to be the sole sponsor of a movie’s broadcast. There’s also the possibility of pod exclusivity during a [...]
Universal brings Talk to Me to Going.com
Universal has created a Going.com group to promote their upcoming Don Cheadle flick Talk to Me, report AdRants.
The group Universal created contains the movie’s poster and trailer and invites members to RSVP to a private screening of the flick. The hyperbole on the page is a little over-the-top, since I don’t actually think the film [...]
New Hot Rod poster
The Andy Samberg daredevil film Hot Rod has a new theatrical poster that popped up over on Movie Poster Addict. I love it as it, as Gus there points out, it fits right in the “clueless sports idiot and his friends” genre along with Talladega Nights, which he compares it against. There’s Samberg, in all [...]
Toy tie-ins vie for consumer’s attention
This summer more movie tie-in toys are waging a battle on retail shelves for the attention of the action-figure buyer, reports The Seattle Times.
There are so many movie-related toys confronting consumers this summer that the overload may actually backfire on toy companies, retailers and studios. Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek, Spider-Man and Transformers are all [...]
Movie commercials help raise Q1 radio revenue
Spending from movie studios on radio commercials rose in the first quarter of 2007, reports MediaPost.
The findings come from the Radio Advertising Bureau and show the percentage of revenue derived from national advertisers of concerts, theater and movies was up 17.3 percent over the first quarter fo 2006. From Q1 2005 to Q1 2006 that [...]
Pete is done with Indy
FilmThreat’s Pete Vonder Haar is going to try to avoid exposure to any further Indiana Jones IV plot points. The problem, as he points out, is that this is virtually impossible to do in the current media world, with TV spots, trailers, video game commercials, behind-the-scenes reports and everything else literally everywhere you turn. He [...]
Quick Takes: 6/26/07
Karina Longworth was quoted by Anne Thompson in Variety in a story about how online buzz still hasn’t fully supplanted the power of the professional critic in the minds of most consumers. That’s a fair point but I think that while it’s true for the mainstream it’s not necessarily the case for smaller films and [...]
Becoming Jane poster
Check out the new poster for Becoming Jane, the fictionalized bio-pic detailing the early creative life of author Jane Austin. Just like the trailer this poster looks very much one that would be created for an adaptation of an Austin novel. The tagline at the bottom is the most obvious tactic to make it clear [...]
Universal provides glimpse at online spending, strategy
I wrote this story up for MarketingVox but wanted to touch it again here.
Universal Pictures has increased the average percentage of a movie’s marketing budget to seven percent this year, up from five percent last year. Compare that to corporate sibling NBC, which is now spending about 25 percent of a project’s budget on online [...]
Congratulations to the Jaffe family
Before I try to catch up on all the stuff I ignored over a three-day weekend I want to send out great big congratulations to Joseph Jaffe and his family on the addition of a new baby boy to the brood. Seems everyone was doing well and the child has already called on agencies to [...]
Takin’ a 3-day weekend
Actually, with some traveling, I’m doing I probably won’t be posting regularly again until Thursday or so.
Slightly Longer Quick Takes 6/22/07
Paramount is planning a big licensed merchandise push for The Smurfs that includes new toys, games and more. They’ll also be looking for cross-promotional deals as they seek to revitalize the brand. There have been rumors - silent lately - of a big-screen animated flick about the little blue characters and this may be the [...]
