MovieLabs looks for technology ideas

movielabs.jpgScott Kirsner has a write-up in Variety of MovieLabs, a multi-studio-funded research group that awards grants for original thoughts on security, presentation and other ideas to protect or expand the studio footprint on the world.

The group awards grants to people with ideas on how to improve secured online delivery of movies, develop cross-platform access to content and improve screen technology. The second point in there, allowing consumers to access their movies no matter where they are, is the subject of The MovieLabs Technology Open Challenge, the first public call by the group for input.

That’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while now. I’d love to be able rip a DVD or two to iTunes or be able to access them remotely while I’m traveling. Anyone who can help me do this will have a much better chance of getting my purchase dollars, I’ll tell you that right now.
