Evan Almighty trailer and website
Here’s the trailer for Evan Almighty that debuted during last Thursday’s “The Office” marathon on NBC. It’s OK. Steve Carell is funny and he gets hit in the groin a couple of times and has some other great reaction shots.
I do, however, have some substantive and theological problems with the movie’s premise.
1) Why does Carell’s Evan have to look like an Old Testament prophet? Is this necessary for any other than comedic reasons? Seems like if God were to call someone He would call that person. The whole transformation joke pushes the movie into the same territory as The Santa Clause.
2) God promises Noah in Genesis 9:13 that He will never again flood the world and puts a rainbow in the sky as a mark of that covenant. Are the filmmakers going to address this or just count on Biblical ignorance and not bring it up?
3) If God is indeed flooding the world, are we going to see trillions (when you count the animals still on the ground) of floating, bloated and drowned corpses at some point? I’m not seeing how this movie has a happy ending, but maybe I’m missing something.
Despite my lingering questions I should also let you know that Universal has activated the movie’s official website as well.
