Alex has the first full trailer to hit for The Bourne Ultimatum, the third installment of the Jason Bourne franchise starring Matt Damon. It’s incredibly effective at establishing desire to see the movie, largely because it spends so much time invoking the memory of the first two movies.
The first third of the trailer’s running time is devoted to scenes from the previous movies. A good portion of the rest of the time is then used making sure we know just how dangerous Bourne is, whether through exposition or the multitude of shots of him hitting someone or jumping from building to building.
That being said, there’s very little new that’s presented to hook in the audience. If you liked the first two you’re likely sold but the trailer doesn’t position it as containing anything unique. Bourne runs around trying to figure out why someone messed with his memory and a bunch of guys stare at computer screens trying to track him down. The first two movies made at least passing efforts to be smarter than the rest of the action genre pack. I hope this one doesn’t settle into fast-food familiarity territory.
