Hannibal Rising Super Bowl spot featured altered quote
Can’t say this is all that shocking.
The Hannibal Rising spot that aired during last week’s Super Bowl featured a quote from a movie critic that was changed in order to be more family friendly. Instead of using the original quote from Maxim critic Pete Hammond that read, “the most terrifying movie of the new year” the quote in the spot was, “the most electrifying movie of the new year.” The Weinstein Co. says it worked with Hammond on the altered quote. Wayne Friedman, who wrote the MediaPost story, seems to have a problem with this idea but I don’t. It’s probably done all the time.
Apparently the spot wasn’t purchased until just a day or so before the game and, when combined with the fourth-quarter placement it got, likely means Weinstein got a deal on the price. In case you’ve forgotten how bad it was, you can watch the spot below.

Apparently 1) Maxim magazine doesn’t take their journalistic standards all that seriously or 2) Pete Hammond really didn’t care that much for the movie one way or the other.
Of course, both of these are probably true, neither one matters and I’m a little sad that I’ve wasted the last three minutes pointing them out.
Perhaps I should go try to cure a disease or hug a child or something.
