2007 February : Movie Marketing Madness

Sunshine poster

I agree with Dave at JoBlo. This new poster for Sunshine is not all that great. Design issues aside, it makes the movie look like a sci-fi action flick and not a drama, which is what the trailer and the rest of the campaign has conveyed.

Year of the Dog poster

This poster for Year of the Dog, a dramedy starring Molly Shannon and host of others, is incredibly good. The hand-drawn design immediately speaks to it being a comedy, and likely an intelligent one at that. I really don’t have too much else to say - it’s really good.

The Ten teaser trailer

I have to admit to never having heard of The Ten before but this teaser trailer is just awesome.

Spider-Man 3 TV spot coming and AIM pages feature

The official Spider-Man 3 blog has two updates as the marketing efforts for this entry in the series ramp up.
First is news that next week’s episode of “Heroes” on NBC will contain a sneak peek (read: TV spot) of the movie that will then be available on NBC.com. This follows last week’s placement of a [...]

Captivity poster

I really like this new poster for Captivity, directed by Roland Joffe and starring Elisha Cuthbert. The illusion of the poster being the top of a glass case that Cuthbert is encased within is really effective and makes the viewer look twice at it (so do Cuthbert’s…nevermind). The kind of brushed metal ring around the [...]

Citizen Marketers excerpt online

If you haven’t been convinced yet to purchase “Citizen Marketers” by Ben McConnell and Jackie Huba there’s now an excerpt online over at iMediaConnection.

More thoughts from the Strategic Name Development guys on the GM/Transformers cars.
Marvel.com has a quick background primer on Iron Man for those not familiar with the character, specifically as he will be portrayed in next year’s big screen film.

Congrats to J.D. and Priscilla

(sniff) Our little J.D. is all grown-up and married. (sniff) Congratulations to the happy couple. May they have a long and happy life together and may he never know the pain of getting hit upside the head with a rolling pin.

Vacancy trailer

Just what Luke Wilson is doing in a movie like Vacancy, which should have starred two TV actors and gone straight to DVD, I’m not sure. The story revolves around a couple (Wilson and Kate Beckinsdale) who got off the interstate (of course) and wind up in a sleazy motel where people keep dying, deaths [...]

Talk To Me trailer

No, in fact, Don Cheadle does not seem capable of turning in a low-quality appearance. The latest example is Talk To Me, where he plays real life figure Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene, a controversial DJ in the late 1960’s who broke all the rules of polite radio. You can check out the trailer here. Strong [...]

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer stuff

A whole bunch of stuff has hit in the last day or so for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
First is this character poster of the Surfer himself. It’s not that complicated, just the Surfer riding toward the viewer with the background whirring past him because he’s moving so fast. It’s very comic-booky, which [...]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on MySpace

Warner Bros. and the Weinsteins have launched a number of MySpace profiles for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Comics2Film has the full list of the five pages, including one for the movie itself and four for each individual turtle.

Skinwalkers poster

Hot chick with pointy teeth.

Jindabyne trailer and poster

Gabriel Byrne and Laura Linney star in Jindabyne, about a group of fishermen who discover a dead body but don’t, for mysterious reasons, report it. The group then suffers through the suspicion by others and changes in themselves that keeping this secret means for them. The trailer is pretty good, setting an appropriately spooky and [...]
