Word of mouse Part 2: Good reputations are worth it
Remember when I explained how the story of Paramount’s initial bad reaction to a blog post made its way through the Viral Community? Well the good news for companies is that same network can be used to positively enhance your reputation.
I mentioned in an off-hand fashion that my upcoming campaign review for Miami Vice would be at least a bit better because someone from Universal talked with me about some of their efforts. Well that got picked up by Mack Collier, who encouraged other marketing blogs to write about this as example of a major company who gets that good blogger relations are a fact of life nowadays. A number of blogs did just that.
- Tricia: Speaking of the promotional value of the blogosphere…
- Jordan: PR in a new media world
- Clay: Bloggers union
- CK: A sign of major progress
A lot of bloggers who are serious about what they’re doing struggle constantly with being taken seriously by the industries they write about. Our only desire, aside from doing good work, is to be given the same level of attention that traditional press outlets do, especially since we’re out here on our own and often scrambling for information. The fact that a company as large as Universal gets that deserves to be spread far and wide.
UPDATE: Add Karl to that list. Also, Tom Flickrs some posters for MV he got in the mail and Mack brings the whole thing home.

Hi Chris,
I can’t wait to hear your review of the movie. By the way, best wishes on moving towards movie marketing guru’ness.
Wish you all the very best.

[...] But today I’m geared up for MV because of the excellent blog-buzz that Chris at Movie Marketing Madness kicked off when he scored a conversation from a Universal rep who contacted him to chat about the movie. And it spread from there. [...]

Add Flixer and BMA to the list.
Makes you wonder how many other companies are spending 30 minutes as wisely as Universal did.
