More on movies and graphic novels
The MacGuffin Book Store has posted part two in their look at graphic novels and the movies they inspire. It seems that DC makes titles that tie into current movies available for order on consignment, meaning the retailer has far less risk of inventory that won’t sell since they can simply return it to the publisher. Marvel has no such program, forcing retailers to order things as they usually would and hope that the stock sells. Because of this, Superman titles - at this particular store at least - will have a much larger display than the X-Men did, despite the lack of direct tie-in books.
That’s interesting since the presence of these books is, or at least can be, very much a part of the marketing of a movie. You would think that the publisher would make whatever accomodations necessary to put related books out there for display.
