XXX2: State of the Union Site Update
Just a day before opening I got an email from Sony reminding me that XXX2 opens tomorrow. When I went to the link above I saw that the site contains 10 minutes from the film you can view, hosted by MTV Overdrive.
As Tom at TheMediaDrop pointed out yesterday, the Overdrive site is only compatible with Internet Explorer and doesn’t work in Firefox (my browser of choice when I’m at home). Not only that, but going to the site and trying to view anything requires you to download a DRM certificate before you’re allowed to see anything.
The only thing worse than looking like a technological ludite is being a major studio that attaches itself to a technological ludite. There’s absolutely no excuse for any and all websites that expect any kind of visitor traffic to not be compatible not only with IE and Netscape Explorer but also Firefox and Opera. Making your site browser-specific is a great way to ensure not only that people don’t (or can’t) visit it but also that bad word or mouth (or, as I recently heard, bad word-of-mouse) is spread far and wide.
Hop on the Cluetrain. Now.
