The Science Behind Advertising Techniques Of Movie Marketing
How To Draw The Biggest Crowd On Movie Day
The release day weekend is the single most important day for a movie’s release. This is true because the majority of people will rush to the box office in order to be the first people to see the film. In fact, this has been the case for decades. The best way to get a myriad of people [...]
Proven Techniques Of Marketing The Movies
Movie marketing techniques these days are complex and often expensive. The first of these techniques is time-honored: the trailer. Studios often complete a trailer long before its movie is complete, and they show different versions of trailers to test audiences and solicit feedback. The idea is to make a trailer as compelling as possible. It’s no wonder that some hardcore moviegoers feel that movie trailers are often more [...]
Is it really true what they say about ads for movies? That the more frequent and obnoxious the advertising for a movie is, the worse the movie is actually going to be?
I get all the movie channels through www.cable.tv/direct-tv/ and I’ve seen more than my fair share of box office bombs, but it does seem to be true. A movie’s overall horribleness somehow seems to correlate with the marketing strategy of said movie.
For example, Jack and Jill, one of the more recent Adam Sandler journeys into stupidity. You could not go a minute without hearing about this movie and the commercials were almost always the same exact trailer.
Wanna know how that movie did? It was all but universally panned by the critics and labled by Time Magazine as the worst movie of the year (2011).
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring got a lot of exposure in magazines but there were not nearly as many commercials for it on TV. I don’t think we really need to talk about how the first Lord of the Rings movie did. People still speak of the trilogy as the Star Wars of our generation.
Whether or not there actually is a real science behind any of this, the fact remains that bad movies seem to really talk a big game when it comes to the advertising. Meanwhile, the great movies seem to rely less on commercials and more on sophisticated methods of exposure.
There are very few movies that will actually walk away with a profit. The production studio spends millions on the budget for the making of the movie. They pay the actors, the crew members and the producers of the movies and that makes for a large amount of money. Millions are also spent in marketing the movies. About one third of the money spent on movies is spent on marketing. It doesn’t matter if the movie is horrible or the movie is great, the marketer for the movie [...]
One of the biggest questions a movie studio needs to ask when they begin marketing is how much they will need to make back in order for the film to be profitable. If they made the movie on a shoe-string budget as an indie film, they won’t need to make back a lot of capital in order to break even on the project. However, the common adage is that it takes money to make money is never more true than it is in the [...]
The way in which you advertise a movie can make or break it when it comes to the box office. Two recent movies have come out in the past six months that have had enormous budgets and they have been incredible flops. The two movies were John Carter, and more recently the film Battleship. Both movies failed on a marketing level and that has led to the demise of an entire movie studio
The best way to advertise for any movie is with a trailer. A trailer is your chance to [...]
With so many actors, actresses and movies out there, it is easy for some of the best movies to quickly fall between the cracks because they have not been properly advertised. Marketing movies is a bit different than marketing other things, and it is important that marketers use the appropriate strategies when marketing movies for the best results.
For one, it is a good idea to get support from others in the entertainment industry when marketing movies. If a popular celebrity likes your movie, [...]
